Fall Door Bucket + Metallic Stacked Pumpkins

I just love this time of year.  We're anticipating some beautiful weather this weekend and hoping to spend a lot of it outdoors with the kids.

Speaking of which... we were outside in our backyard on Monday, when our little guy fell backwards on the swing set ladder, fracturing his proximal humerus.  Since then, it's been quite a chore keeping him safe.  It hasn't slowed him down much.  We're still in disbelief that it happened.  We saw an orthopaedic specialist today and she decided not to cast it, due to the fracture being high on his arm, so he's wearing a velcro sling for the next 4 weeks.  Please pray for a quick recovery for our Tyler-bug!  :)

Due to the craziness going on around here, I'm a little late in posting my Fall door decor, I usually try to get it out mid September!  I've decorated our door with my favorite Southern Living door bucket for the past few years.  I never tire of it, it's such a classic look.  Here are some pictures over the years of our front door with its rich sunflowers, mums, hydrangeas and gourds.

I love how my stacked pumpkins turned out!  I purchased three different sized "fun"kins at Michael's (2 of each size) and used Americana acrylic paint in Burnt Orange, adding in some metallic glaze to give it some shimmer.  The pumpkins are held together with pvc pipe, cutting a hole in the center (top and bottom) of the middle and bottom pumpkins.  The top pumpkin is cut out at the bottom, leaving you with a stem at the top!   Just slide your (measured to length) pvc pipe through the holes, leaving plenty of length to stick it down into your mulched flower pot.  Lastly, I took some colorful leaf garland and wrapped it around each topiary.  So cute!

I love the selection of flowers that Hobby Lobby carries, it's always fun picking out colors and putting it together.  I got these for 50% off... under $20 for everything.  

I have yet to pick-up my mums and pumpkins for the front porch.  I'm looking forward to all the inspiring ideas, my favorite part of these wonderful link parties!

Give Thanks Fall Mantel

Hi Ya'll!
I can't tell you how happy I am that Fall is finally here!  We've had some pretty extreme temperatures in North Dallas and it's so nice to be able to enjoy the outdoors with my kids again.  We spent a good part of our summer indoors and I have to say it was a challenge keeping them entertained.  We enjoyed lots of indoor swimming and play dates at Chick-fil-A! I think we were all glad when school started!

Over the weekend, I pulled the Fall decor out of the attic and managed to set up a mantel scape, just in time for the "It's Fall Ya'll" Link Party!  Layla at The Lettered Cottage is hosting the first of four parties and hers is all about MANTELS!  I love seeing all the beautiful ways we decorate, they are all so inspiring.  I'm sure I'll be doing some serious pinning this week!  :)

So, without further ado, here is my mantel...

The pennant banner is my favorite project that my scrapbookin' buddy and I made last year.  We made the flowers out of large scalloped die cuts.  We distressed them with ink, scrunched them up and layered them together, forming them into cute shabby flowers.  I can post a tutorial on these or attach a link on the "how-to" if anyone is interested!

I made the wreath out of dried putka pods.  I love the added texture it brings to the room.  They look like mini pumpkins!

I hung it over the painted wallpaper canvases 

that were inspired by Sarah at Thrifty Decor Chick.

It's About "Time!"

Hi again!  Remember this clock I purchased at Goodwill SEVERAL months ago?  Well, I finally finished it and have it hanging in our new master bathroom.  I had to do some minor mechanical work... change out the gears, add new black hands (I originally had gold ones, but could never make out the time).

Here it is before in its rusty red state...

I spray painted it with Rustoleum's Heirloom White...

After about 3-4 coats and waiting overnight for it to dry, I decided to lightly apply Ralph Lauren's Smoke Glaze to make the details stand out.  

Yes, it's almost one in the morning!  What can I say, I'm a night owl!

We (I) desperately needed a clock in the bathroom to help me stay on time in the mornings.  I love it!  For just $2.99 and $5 for new gears, I turned this:

Repurposed Cabinets

So I've shared with you on a few occasions that I like to do a lot of repurposing in my home.  I've been brainstorming for quite some time now about what to do with the cabinets my husband installed in our home office a few years ago.  I've seen so many fabulous office redos in my years of blogging, but when I stumbled upon this one, I was awe struck!  If you follow me on Pinterest, you may have seen my pins on Megan's beautiful space...

I ADORE her office!  When I noticed how similar our spaces appeared, I just knew mine needed a transformation.  My obstacle, however, was the dark and heavy cabinets!  I didn't want to paint them (I have too many things on my "need to paint" list) , so they had to go!

I started thinking about the unorganized clutter in our MBR closet and knew moving them up there would help to resolve the problem.  Once I measured and learned they would fit, I presented the idea to hubby and he happily approved!  I wish I had a before picture, but as you can see I was quite anxious to get started!  

To avoid space on the ends, we decided to dismantle and rebuild one of the cabinets in the center, leaving us with three instead of the original four.  We're so pleased with the turnout; I'm glad we were able to reuse them.

As for the door from the fourth cabinet... I managed to snatch it from the pile in the garage and repurpose it too!  I knew exactly what I wanted to do!

I plan to use my repurposed door in the closet to hang belts, scarves and hats.  I've already covered it with some pretty damask fabric and I'll be adding hooks to the top and bottom this weekend.

I Heart Goodwill!

I visited the local Goodwill a few weeks ago and wanted to share the treasures I brought home.  First is this beautiful solid wood mirror.  I love the lines and it was in great condition for just $15!

My plan is to paint it antique white with some heavy distressing and glaze.  

I have also thought about turning it into a chalkboard.  It's quite large, so finding a place for it would be a challenge.  As of right now, it is propped up in our daughter's room on her dresser.  I like it here too!  So many options for this cute mirror!  

On my way towards the check out, I spotted this adorable make-up bag and immediately thought, "Ava would love this!"  I added it in for just $1.59!  

The other treasures I found were silver plated tea sets, a jewelry tray (for my bedside table), lamp with shade for $7.99 (Score!) and this wood wine crate for $2.99!  I used it in my pantry redo to house my canned/boxed goods.

I continue to be on the hunt for a cute vintage style chair that I can redo for our home office. There are a few flea markets coming soon, so I hope to get lucky there!

Pantry Project

Hi everyone!
Now that school is back in full swing, I've been tackling some projects around the house and have slowly been checking some off my list.  The project I've been working on lately is my pantry.  I've seen so many of you transform your pantries into beautiful organized spaces.  One in particular has caught my eye.  I recently discovered Danielle at Amber Lane Living and fell in love with her pantry redo.  She used mod podge to adhere fabric to contact paper to achieve an adorable look on her pantry walls.

There are so many beautiful fabrics out there, that it has been hard for me to decide. So, the first thing I decided to do was gather my containers and start turning my cardboard mess of a pantry into something sleek and attractive!  I shopped at Target, Container Store, Ikea, TJ Maxx/Home Goods, BB&B and even Goodwill.  I couldn't wait to get them all home and transform my pantry.

My dear friend, Susan has a Silhouette to make vinyl letters.  We picked out the cutest font called Jenna Sue on www.dafont.com and added labels to all the containers.  I just love how they turned out!

The next step is to add some trim to the shelfs and sides to give it a cleaner look.  The hubs and I have plans to do this next weekend.  Until then, I'll be working on selecting the fabric so that I can adhere to contact paper and apply to the walls.  I've narrowed down the fabric choice to my top four favorites:

I adore the first one simply because it was one of the reasons I fell in love with Danielle's pantry. However, the other three have a beautiful color palette too.  I'm leaning towards Joel Dewberry's Bloom Granite because I love the grays and yellows and it will tie in nicely with the rest of my kitchen.  What do you think?
